I think this quote from Ron Paul pretty much sums it up:
“But the people who are screaming for the housing bailout are the people who got their houses for free. You know, they didn’t have to put any money down. The house went up in value. They even borrowed more money. Then they spent it. Now they want you and I to bail them out so that they can keep their homes” - Congressman Ron Paul
Of course the banks and scheming mortgage companies deserve their share of the blame too. That part’s simple: make them eat their losses. They made the crap loans, they need to live with it.
In all the whining we hear these days abou tthe poor people “losing their homes,” no one ever seems to shed any tears for those of us that couldn’t(or wouldn’t)Â buy a home in the first place because the irresponsible people drove the prices beyond anything that made good financial sense - i.e. proper lending standards, 3:1 max purchase price to annual income ratio, etc.
What about us? Where’s our weepy story on the 6 o’clock news?
To add insult to injury, now they want us to pay for these deadbeats and the mortgage company’s losses too!
It’s beyond an outrage. We’re now in serious bizzaro world territory.
